First club season 2012-2013


Excel Established
— November 2012
Athletes from National Stream train under Excel umbrella.
— November 2012

Pre-competitive program is introduced at grand trunk pool.
— January 2013

Excel’s Junior Duet (Miranda/Arden) win first place at the Synchro Alberta Spring Trophy. These swimmers placed first and second in figures. The club also won the High Point Award trophy, ending the season with great success.

Second club season 2013-2014

Dr. Teresa Alentejano is hired as Head Coach

Excel hosts first camp. It is well-attended by National Stream athletes.
— August 2013

First Provincial Stream athlete joins club. We welcome Leduc Synchro to our programs.
— September 2013

We co-host the first annual Capital Figures Meet which is attended by all regional clubs. The highlight of the event is the visit by Gabrielle Brisson, member of the National Team. She speaks, performs and works with the girls during a fun-packed day.

February 2014 - Three Excel Junior athletes qualify for the second phase of Canada Winter Game trials.

Our Junior team visits the Centre of Excellence in Montreal. They are able to work with coaches and athletes of Canada’s Senior team. A fantastic inspirational opportunity!

National Stream athletes are featured in the promotional trailer for the 2014 Calgary Sled Festival.

 
All members of our Junior team achieve personal bests at COSSC Nationals with two of our athletes qualifying for National Team Trials. They are privileged to pre-swim the routine the final selections. We successfully defend our High Points Award Trophy at the Synchro Alberta Spring Trophy. Our athletes finish first and sixth in Junior figures, first and fourth in Junior solo, and first in Junior duet.

Three Excel National Juniors are named to the 2014 Junior Team Alberta. Head coach Teresa also earns a berth on the team as assistant coach.

Third club season - 2014-2015


Two time Brazilian Olympian swimmer Nayara comes to Edmonton to inspire our athletes during our summer camp.

Gwen’s solo places 3rd at the Canada Games. She also takes part in Team Alberta placing 2nd.
— February 2015

For the first time in the history of the club a 10 & under and a 12 & under team represent Excel at a provincial competition.

— March 2015

Excel swimmers and head coach have the opportunity to visit the Centre of Excellence in Montreal.

Excel swimmers on the podium at the Prairie Invitational - Nikki first in Figures and Solo (Routine and championship), Duet (Paige/Bethany) 5th place, Bethany 6th in Solo.

August 2015 - Excel Swimmer Gwen wins a gold medal swimming for the Canadian Junior National “A” team (red team) at UANA Age Group Pan American Games, in Calgary.

Fourth club season - 2015-2016

September 2015 – 4 teams are set up to swim for Excel in the coming season.

Excel is awarded 10,000 dollars to promote Physical Literacy in Edmonton and surrounding areas. The RBC Learn to Play project is supported by RBC, Canadian Sport for Life, Participaction and Propel.

Excel hosts the Capital Figures Meet in conjunction with the Sports day in Canada. Events were attended by all regional clubs. Elise Marcotte was the Olympian who led the workshops for the Sports day event.

Club was selected to participate in the Synchro Canada LTAD project.
13 to 15 Duet finishes first in the selection process to represent Zone 6 in the Alberta Winter Games. Well done Bethany and Paige!

Excel’s top athlete is selected to swim at the Centre of Excellence in Montreal and to represent Canada on the Junior and Senior teams. Well done Gwen!

Gold medal for Excel at the Alberta Winter Games - 13 to 15 duet places first (Bethany and Paige) and Bethany brings home the silver medal for figures.

24 swimmers represent Excel in the Wildrose qualifier with many podium results.

Junior/Senior duet finish 4th at the Qualifier.

48 swimmers participate on the year end watershow.

June 2016 - Excel achieves a major milestone - 75 swimmers are officially registered with the club, including 2 boys. Thank you parents, swimmers and coaches for the trust you put in our club!

Excel Synchro Provincial stream swimmer Bethany competed at Espoir and would have qualified for Alberta Provincial team had Synchro Alberta rules allowed her as a provincial stream athlete to represent the province.

Fifth club season - 2016-2017


Head Coach Teresa judges at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

For the first time in Excel’s history the club participates in the National Stream category with a 13 to 15 and a junior team.

Excel athletes travel to Las Vegas Water Beauties camp and work with Bill May and Suzannah Bianco.

Excel Synchro junior swimmers visit Canadian National Team in Montreal.

31 Excel swimmers participate on the Wildrose Classic with many podium results: 10 & U X team – 3rd place, 12 & U M team 6th place, Novice Solo (Ciara) 1st place.

Excel Athletes are awarded Excellence & Merit Awards at the Wildrose Classic. The athletes are : Keira, Emma and Marih.

For the first time a Junior team represents Excel at Nationals. The pioneers are Bethany, Kia, Bailey, Nikki and Breanne.

Private pool party followed by a BBQ celebrates a year full of accomplishments!

Breanne (Junior Swimmer) qualifies to represent team Alberta.

For the first time a 13 to 15 team represents Excel at Espoir! The pioneers are: Jaedyn, Emma, Paige, Natalie, Mary, Olga, Ellie and Jolie.

Kia and Mary (13 to 15 swimmers) selected to represent Team Alberta over the summer. They will be coached by one of our 13 to 15 coaches – Elizabeth Scott.

Excel wins Small Club of the year award for the 2016 season

Two teams qualify for the Alberta Winter Games.

The first year Excel Synchro sent teams to the Alberta Winter Games.

Excel Synchro was represented by 6 provincial stream teams this season at the Wildrose Qualifier in Edmonton, and Wildrose Classic in Calgary.

Many Excel athletes receive merit awards at the Wildrose Classic.

Juniors travel to Windsor Ontario for the Canadian Artistic Swimming Championship.

13-15 NS team travels to Surrey BC for Espoir.

Mary, Olga, Emma, Bailey, Bethany, and Cammy qualify for Team Alberta and compete in the SYNC competition in Toronto.

Seventh club season- 2019-2020


Excel Synchro has grown to 7 provincial stream teams!

This year Excel was represented by a 13-15NS team and Junior/Senior Duets and Solos.

Excel hosts the Sports day in Canada Featuring two National team athletes Jacqueline Simoneau from Montreal and Excel’s own Gwen McGuire.
— November 2018

Excel gets awarded a prestigious grant to provide swimmers with disabilities the opportunity to experience synchronized swimming - The SOAR Program is created.
— January 2019

Eighth club season 2019 - 20


September 2019 - The award says it all!

Excel Coach Carly was named Most Promising Coach for the 2018-2019 season.

This was a very promising season for Excel. Seven teams were created to represent Excel. A total of 120 swimmers and 20 coaches were part of the club.

Excel hosts, for the second consecutive year, the Capital City Figures meet in support of the Edmonton Artistic Swimming community.

Two Excel teams qualify for the Alberta Winter Games.
— Nov 2019

Excel teams place 2nd and 4th at the Alberta Games, making this a milestone for the club! This was the best result ever for the club at an Alberta Games.

Excel is granted a Federal grant to support Women in Sport, including new comers & swimmers with disabilities.

Ninth club season- 2020-2021

July 2020 - Excel is the first club to be back in the water after some of the restrictions are lifted. A safe month of camp is a very important milestone for the club!
